About the Book

After dealing with unrest in her home country of Cuba, Estrella is forced to start over in a new country, during what is now known as the 1980 Mariel Boatlift. After being sponsored by a young couple in Portland, Estrella her husband and their two-year-old moved across the United States from Florida to Oregon.

In comes Eddie a young person who is trying to survive his childhood situations. Estrella is trying to make a life for herself and her children in a new country with new options. Estrella tries a variety of options to make a life in a new country. She decides to leave her abusive husband, start a new relationship with her sponsor, move across the country back to Florida, moves back to Oregon, then make a wrong choice in trying to flee her husband. This decision was the beginning of some of the hardest times for the kids.
